Biography
Tom Davenport holds the President’s Chair in Information Technology and Management at Babson College. He is a widely published author and acclaimed speaker and consultant on the topics of business analytics, process management, information and knowledge management, reengineering, enterprise systems, and electronic business and markets. He has a Ph. D. from Harvard University in organizational behavior and has taught at the Harvard Business School, the University of Chicago, Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business, and the University of Texas at Austin. He was previously a partner and Executive Director of the Accenture Institute for Strategic Change, and also directed research at several other consulting firms, including McKinsey & Company and Ernst & Young. He has advised several U. S. intelligence agencies, including the CIA, the NSA, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Tom’s most recent book (with Jeanne Harris and Bob Morison) is Analytics at Work: Smarter Decisions, Better Results. His previous book, Competing on Analytics: The New Science of Winning, was a best-seller and was translated into 14 languages. The topic of “competing on analytics” was named one of the most important ideas of the decade by Harvard Business Review editors in 2010, and Tom’s 2006 article on the same topic was named one of “Ten Must Reads” in HBR’s history. Prior to his analytics work, Tom wrote, co-authored or edited eleven other books, including the first books on business process reengineering, knowledge management, and achieving value from enterprise systems. He has written over 100 articles for such publications as Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, California Management Review, the Financial Times, and many other publications. Tom has also been a columnist for CIO, InformationWeek, and Darwin magazines.

In 2003 he was named one of the world’s “Top 25 Consultants” by Consulting magazine. In 2005 he was named one of the top 3 “Business/Technology Analysts” in the world by Optimize magazine. In 2007 he was named one of the 100 most influential people in the information technology industry by Ziff-Davis magazines, and was the highest-ranked business academic.
