Edward D. Hess is a Professor of Business Administration and Batten Executive-in-Residence at the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia. Professor Hess is the author of 8 books, over 40 articles, and over 40 cases focusing on high performance organizations, organic growth, growth strategies, corporate growth systems, processes, cultures, and portfolios. He is the co-author of the Darden Growth/Innovation Model.
His most recent books are Smart Growth: Building an Enduring Business by Managing the Risks of Growth (Columbia Business School, 2010) ; So. Prior to joining academia, Professor Hess spent more than 30 years in the business world. He began his career at Atlantic Richfield Corporation and was a senior executive at Warburg, Paribas Becker, the Robert M. Bass Group, Jones Lang Wooten, and Arthur Andersen. Prior to joining the Faculty at Darden he was an Adjunct Professor and the Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship & Corporate Growth and The Values-Based Leadership Institute at the Goizueta Business School at Emory University.
